Walk down Whitehall to the heart of London
A walk down Whitehall is a must for any tourists visiting London with an interest in the government, as it is home to many historic buildings where the ministries are housed.
Running from Parliament Square to Trafalgar Square, the road is home to some of the city’s most famous landmarks such as Downing Street and the Horse Guard’s Parade.
It also hosts the Cenotaph which is a large monument built to mark the end of World War One. It now serves to commemorate every Commonwealth battle since 1918 and is a focal point of Remembrance Day.
Visitors may wish to take the opportunity to marvel at Banqueting House, which is the only remaining part of Whitehall Palace. Built in the early 17th century it was the UK’s first Renaissance building.
Whitehall is also marked with a statue of Charles I which is often referred to as being the heart of London.
Another famous statue in the area is Nelson’s Column, which can be seen in Trafalgar Square.
