Visit the Houses of Parliament – the UK's political centre

London’s skyline would not be complete without the Houses of Parliament and the famous Big Ben standing proudly beside the Thames.

The site has been home to British authorities for over a thousand years and it is likely that for many tourists keen to get the most out of a trip to England’s capital, seeing the political hub up-close is a must.

Over the years the buildings which make up the houses of parliament have evolved as a result of many events.

Two of the major occurrences which helped to shape them include a fire in 1834 and a World War II bombing on May 10th 1941, which destroyed the House of Commons chamber.

Another political spot which tourists may like to pay a visit to is 10 Downing Street, which has been home to the British prime minister since 1735 when Sir Robert Walpole moved in.
