See some of the world's most famous art at the National Gallery
London is a city providing a wealth of history and culture and it is likely that there is something for everyone who chooses to visit the capital.
However, for any tourists who cannot quite decide where to start, the National Gallery could be one of the best places to enjoy some breathtaking artwork and spectacular sculptures.
The gallery, which overlooks Trafalgar Square, houses one of the world’s best collections of western paintings, according to its website.
It was first established in 1824 when the House of Commons purchased a collection of 38 paintings from banker John Julius Angerstein for the price of £57,000.
Now it has come to own some of the most famous paintings by the world’s greatest artists and visitors may want to take an afternoon to stroll around the beautiful building and admire works by Monet, Constable, Michelangelo or Van Gogh.
For art lovers who prefer something a little more modern, the Tate Modern to the south of the River Thames provides some more contemporary pieces of artwork.
