Discover Hyde Park Corner and its secret code

Those who want to take in as many of the sights and sounds of London as they can on their visit to the city may do well to take a trip to Hyde Park Corner.

The open space, located at the south-east corner of Hyde Park, is a major intersection with many famous monuments and statues.

One of the most recognisable of this is likely to be Wellington Arch, which was deigned by Decimus Burton as a memorial to the Duke of Wellington.

Following the World War II, one of the major roads – Park Lane – was widened and the area surrounding the arch transformed into a large traffic island laid with grass.

Perhaps a more unusual fact about the area is that the term Hyde Park Corner was used as a code to announce the death of King George VI to the government in 1952.
